Of Mice & Men @ 02 Academy, Birmingham 30/09/2016

After their headline set at Slam Dunk this past summer, the Orange County five piece kick off their “Cold World” UK tour tonight in Birmingham.

As the lights go down and the intro “-” begins to play, the crowd go wild. As each member takes the stage, the crowd get louder and louder. Frontman Austin comes bounding out as lead single “Pain” begins. Along with the constant smiles, this sort of energy is something continues throughout the night and it is the sort of energy the crowd feed off. They are alive from the start. The academy is just one big sing a long.

They have a set list that pleases new and old fans alike with a mix of songs from all four of their albums, incuding “Second & Sebring”, which is the final song of the night and at this point the crowd are going absolutely wild. The added interludes of “-” and “+” really do showcase the talents of the band.

Support tonight comes from Australian five piece, Hands Like House, a band that provides an energetic set to wake the crowd up. The crowd respond in a positive manner. The second support comes from Crown the Empire, a band that are perhaps more enjoyed by the younger members of the crowd. Although, when they play “Hologram” and “Weight of the World” the whole room seems to be buzzing.

Overall, tonight was an incredible show. Of Mice & Men put on a belter of a show. The pure joy they feel can easily be seen on their faces. The clean and unclean vocals of Aaron and Austin are outstanding all night. They are a band who know how to have a good time. They love the crowd and the crowd love them back. A fab opening show to what is set to be an amazing tour.
