It’s a wet and windy night in Glasgow but that has not stopped a few die hard fans queuing up since the morning. Tonight Avenged Sevenfold kick off the UK leg of their The Stage world tour. The atmosphere among the waiting crowd outside is one of intense excitement.
First up is Swedish band, In Flames. The crowd is a little sparce which is a shame as In Flames really know how to kick things off. There were little pockets of activity but the crowd didn’t seem to be enjoying them. The band themselves were incredible and a joy to watch.
Although the crowd has filled it more they still do not seem to be into it as much as they could be considering it is Disturbed. Although the crowd has filled it more they still do not seem to be into it as much as they could be considering it is Disturbed. Crowd fell silent and lit the room up during the beautifully sung, ‘The Sound of Silence’. Other songs included fan favourites ‘Pray’ and ‘The Sickness’.
It is now time for headliners, Avenged Sevenfold to hit the stage in a red haze. The crowd has grown considerably and are going wild. Kicking things off with the album title track ‘The Stage’, charismatic frontman Shadows is energetic from the start. Vengeance and Gates are spot on and the crowd go wild when they do their trademark side by side playing while bassist Christ wanders about the stage.
There is also a solo from drummer Brooks, which the crowd love and after a short timeout the band return for a 3 song encore of ‘Bat Country’, ‘A little piece of heaven’ and ‘Unholy Confessions’. Oh and not forgetting the marriage proposal (she said yes) on stage before ‘Angels’.
The stage show is not as extravagant as previous tours have been, there is a lot of screen imagery and the show itself has been stripped back to more about the music. Avenged Sevenfold are old hands at this but they still perform as though it is the first time, they give 100% and are an incredible live band. Avenged Sevenfold are a must see band. They truly are trailblazers for heavy metal.
