Crejuvent Interview

  1. How did you guys all meet, and what made you form a band?

I would argue that I haven’t fully met myself yet, so I’m afraid I can’t answer that question. What made me want to form a solo project was the fact that I wanted a platform that allowed me to fully explore all the intricacies of my internal confusion and mental anguish and add fart jokes on top of that to make it presentable to the general public. A concoction of a selfish need to make my presence known and an altruistic desire to give back to the world.

  1. For those that don’t know your band, how would you describe your band?

It’s heavy, melodic, and will leave you in a state of sexual desire and confusion. It’s a perfect symbiotic entity of everything that’s right and wrong in the world. It will open up a new train of thought in your otherwise incomplete consciousness. It has samples from The Simpsons.

  1. Any band you would like to tour with (that you haven’t already toured with)?

At this point any band really. I don’t get to gig much seeing as it’s a solo project, let alone tour! Ideally I’d like to tour with someone fun, but I’m easy.

  1. Can we expect a headline tour in the near future?

HA, probably not, no. Unless you have a budget of a mijillion pounds that you can give me?

  1. You recently released the video for the single “Time”. what is the song about?

It’s about feeling helpless against the never-ending tyranny that is time. Feeling like you can’t keep up with everything that humanity is doing around you. It’s about exploring the theme of time as a human construct, and the negative impact and pressures it can put on you. I don’t know.

  1. What was the hardest track for you to write, and why?

It would probably be Malicious Clouds. The original draft had more sections and some shortened sections, the riffs were thrown out there a bit, and the lyrics lack the theme of the other tracks, but I ended up being able to justify the song’s existence in the end and it’s now one of my favourites!

  1. What is your favourite track on the (ep/album) and why?

I don’t know, I like them all really. I refused to put a track that I felt was ‘inferior’ to the others, as I didn’t want to have any weak tracks. If I had to pick, I’d probably say Time is my favourite, just because it’s quite different from stuff I normally write. Code Orange is also high up there as I think it’s the least ‘metal’ song on the EP and it gave me a chance to explore elements that I didn’t get to explore in other tracks.

  1. How do you think your fans will react to the EP?

Erotically. They will fill the world with their ejaculate as soon as the EP starts playing. They will know true enlightenment and achieve an a level of inner peace that’s been unheard of. A true euphoric feeling of absurdism will engulf the world.

I think they will like the EP.

  1. Who are your biggest musical influences?

My BIGGEST influences would be Devin Townsend, Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steven Wilson, Cynic, Beyond Creation, oh god I could continue this list forever. The music I write is very much influenced by whatever I’m listening to at the time, and that tends to change constantly. I also apply my influences differently to different projects. I find it’s really hard to pinpoint your own influences, that’s why to get a better answer it’s always best to ask someone else what influence they hear. I’ve been told by different people that the Time EP reminds them of Devin Townsend, Gojira, Mastodon, Obscura, whatever. And those are all fair answers.

  1. have you always wanted to create music?

Yes. I can barely speak, so to me music has always been a superior way for me to express myself effectively.

  1. If you werent in a band, what would you be doing?

Fuck knows. Maybe I’d be a dictator.

  1. What are your plans for the rest of the year?

I got a few dates planned with my other bands, but I’ll get on writing some more stuff for Crejuvent soon enough. I’ll be focusing a lot on racking up the dollar so I can finance my next release more effectively probably. I imagine with the fall coming up I’ll be staying home a bit more, maybe do more cooking. And plenty of masturbation.
